Nintendo just released a whole bunch of information on their online service coming September of this year, Nintendo Online.
As I stated the service is indeed still coming in September of this year and the pricing plans are still the same at $3.99 for 1 Month, $7.99 for 3 months and $19.99 for a whole year. Nintendo has added to that list, announcing a new Family plan for $34.99 per year, which as it says on the website:
A Nintendo Account holder may invite up to seven others to join a family group; all members of the group will have access to Nintendo Switch Online.
From what I gather from that, is you and seven friends can join a family group and split the online cost to just $6 a person for an entire year. There must be some sort of fine print or limitation to this; cause really, why would you do anything else then? It could be that Nintendo sees it as a rarity that 7 people will be on one plan and people would not abuse it.
I got to believe that there is some sort of limitation that they have to be child accounts or something like that.
They also showed that we will be getting 20, yes TWENTY NES games with Nintendo Online that have online play. They only have listed 10 of the games so far and more games will be shown at E3. The 10 are as follows:
- Donkey Kong™
- Mario Bros.™
- Super Mario Bros.™
- Balloon Fight™
- Ice Climber™
- Dr. Mario™
- The Legend of Zelda™
- Super Mario Bros.™ 3
Nintendo had this to say about the online functionality of some of these games because, for some of the ones listed above, online play is a total mystery.
“Depending on the game, players can engage in online competitive or co-op multiplayer, or take turns controlling the action,”
“Friends can even watch each other play single-player games online, and “pass the controller” at any time. Every classic NES game will support voice chat via the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app. It will also be possible to play these games offline.”
Another huge feature of Nintendo Online is that we are getting cloud saves!
*cue Hallelujah chorus*. You will be able to save all your games with ease and not have to worry about losing them ever again! There are more features coming to the service like subscriber-only perks and offers that will be detailed later.
What do you think so far of the online service? Let me know in the comments!
